PLAYER SPOTLIGHT

Long Island Lutheran

Celeste Taylor

Junior, Guard

The 5-11 guard recently made a verbal commitment to the University of Texas and also helped USA Basketball this past summer win the gold medal in the 2017 FIBA Americas Championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Taylor averaged 16 points per game last season and can score from all spots on the floor.

Christ the King

Kaelyn Satterfield

Junior, Guard/Forward

The 6-foot guard was an all-city first team selection last year and is a mismatch for opponents by playing different positions on the floor. Satterfield lead the Royals last season with 17.3 points per game and grabbed 6.2 rebounds per contest.

Scouting Report: Christ the King (2-0) is off to a strong start with virtually the entire team returning from last year’s Brooklyn/Queens CHSAA Class AA finalists.

The Lady Royals has already defeated one of the top ranked teams in the country with a 46-45 victory over Paul VI (VA) on December 1 at the Art Turner Tip Off Classic in Fairfax, Virginia. Brandy Thomas, a senior committed to LIU-Brooklyn, leads a strong core including Satterfield, 6-4 sophomore Natalija Marshall, 6-2 Klarke Sconiers along with Julianna Lignowski and Jaeonna Sutton.

Long Island Lutheran (2-1) split two games at the She Got Game Classic last weekend by losing to Paul VI and defeating Princess Anne (MD) 47-44 on a half court buzzer beater from junior guard Alisha Lewis. The Crusaders feature a number of college bound stars including Taylor, Lewis (Georgia Tech), 5-10 forward Emma Cuccurullo (Adelphi) and 5-11 senior Grace Stone (Princeton).
