PSAL teams clinch berth to Bowl, Cup finals

Bayside earned a 28-6 PSAL Bowl semifinal win over Springfield Gardens on Saturday afternoon.

No. 2 seed Bayside clinched its first championship appearance since 1988 by defeating Springfield Gardens, 28-6, in a PSAL Bowl conference semifinal game held at Bayside Field Saturday afternoon.

Bayside will take on Lehman Campus in the championship game on December 2 at 7 p.m. at MCU Park in Brooklyn. The only defeat this season for Bayside came in Week 6 in a 12-9 defeat against visiting Lehman.

Robert Williams returned a kickoff 87-yards for a touchdown and the senior made 5 receptions and a touchdown catch for the Commodores (10-1), who last won the city title in 1981. Tequan Evans (8 for 12, 186 yards, 2 TD’s) threw a scoring pass to Devonte Brown, Josh Rodriguez added a rushing touchdown and Jean Palacio converted four extra point kick attempts. 

Mario DeLaCruz scored five touchdowns to power No. 1 seed Lehman to a 49-0 victory over Eagle Academy II in the PSAL Bowl conference semifinals held Saturday at Evander Childs High School in the Bronx. 

The Lions (11-0) earned its 20th consecutive win and that ranks third currently in New York State behind Troy and Garden City. 

PSAL Cup Semifinals

Top seed Franklin K. Lane came back from a four-point deficit in the third quarter to complete a 39-20 victory over KIPP NYC College Prep and clinch a place in the PSAL Cup conference final at MCU Park. 

The Knights (11-0) are the only unbeaten team in the division as they take on No. 3 seed Far Rockaway for the first time this season in the title game at 3 p.m. on December 2 The Seahorses went on the road Saturday to earn a 36-6 victory over No. 2 East Harlem Pride, 36-6, at George Washington High School.
