Norwalk senior Kevin Joslyn has been named the MSG Varsity's FCIAC Player of the Week for Nov. 12-17 by a panel of athletic directors and MSG Varsity reporters.
Joslyn scored all four of the Bears’ goals in the Class L quarterfinals and semifinals, as Norwalk defeated Newtown and Stamford, both 2-1.
In the quarterfinals versus Newtown last Tuesday, the Bears were trailing 1-0 when Joslyn scored the equalizer in the 65th minute. He then iced the game with the winner in the 77th minute.
Three days later in the semifinals, Joslyn opened the Bears’ scoring against Stamford with a goal in the 30th minute. After Stamford tied the score, Joslyn gave Norwalk the lead for good when he scored again in the 59th minute.
Norwalk will play Fairfield Prep for the Class LL championship on Friday in New Canaan.
What's your biggest athletic goal for 2012-13?
Joslyn: "My biggest athletic goal for the upcoming year is to get into the college of my choice and play soccer there. I want to play soccer for as long as I can at the highest competitive level as possible."
Who is your favorite teammate and why?
Joslyn: "Nacho Navarro. He actually put me in his answer last week. We're a package deal when it comes to soccer. It is very rare to see one of us playing without the other. If I didn't have him, I don't know if I would be able to score. He probably has assisted half of my goals that I've scored in my lifetime. He's just a fantastic play-maker."
What's the best piece of advice you've received?
Joslyn: "The best piece of advice I've received is to never take anything for granted. My youth soccer days flew by and I think that I will come to realize when I'm older that these will be some the best days of my life. What's better than playing the game you love with the guys that you love. I will never take this moments for granted."
Which athlete is your biggest influence?
Joslyn: "Wayne Rooney. I try to model myself after him as a forward. He is one of the most energetic, hard working players you will ever watch. But what really impresses me is his ability to score goals. His finishing is clinical and I wish I could play more like him."
What's your proudest accomplishment away from the game?
Joslyn: "My proudest accomplishment aside from soccer would have to be getting a 3.8 GPA one quarter last year. It was the best I've ever done. I need to do well in school as well as soccer in order to get into the college of my choice so succeeding in school makes me just as proud as succeeding on the field."
