Greenwich senior Abby Markowitz has been named the MSG Varsity's FCIAC Player of the Week for Jan. 30-Feb. 4 by a panel of athletic directors and MSG Varsity reporters. Markowitz won three distance races while leading the Cardinals to their first FCIAC indoor championship in 32 years. Markowitz won the 1,000-meter run with a time of 3:00.36; the 1,600 in 5:19.71; and the 3,200 in 11:35.65. Greenwich scored 92 points as a team, finishing 18 points ahead of Darien.

What's your biggest athletic goal for 2012?
Markowitz: "My main goal was for our team to win FCIACS. That went well, and now I'm looking to do well in states and qualify for New Englands."

Who is your favorite teammate and why?
Markowitz: "We have a great group of girls so it's hard to choose, but if I had to pick it would be my twin sister Elizabeth."

What's the best piece of advice you've received?
Markowitz: "All of my coaches have been a big help in getting to believe in myself."

Which athlete is your biggest influence?
Markowitz: "My sister (Elizabeth) has helped me the most. The way she pushes me and herself is great."

What's your proudest accomplishment away from the game?
Markowitz: "Finding a balance between school and sports, and having success in both."
