#Championships: Decorated by MSG Varsity

Several 2013-2014 CHSAA champions do a little remodeling of the MSG Varsity offices to show off their school’s hardware.

Harriott, Farese are up to the challenge

Both received their plaques as well as $1,000 scholarships from Guy and Mark Dellecave, sons of the late Butch Dellecave, for whom the award is named. Butch Dellecave was an educator in the Connetquot district for 30 years, an esteemed basketball official and one of the founders of the Suffolk Hall of Fame.

Cornell hurls Clarke into state championship

A combination of all those reasons, and others, helped Clarke defeat Troy, 8-2, in the state Class A semifinals at Moreau Park. The Rams return to the state final, looking to avenge last season’s loss in extra innings.

Center Moriches falls in Class B final

Center Moriches impressed defensively and rallied from an early deficit with five runs in the sixth inning to pull within one, but a trio of home runs put the game out of reach as Marlboro won, 15-8, in the Southeast Regional Class B softball championship Saturday at Rhinebeck Elementary School.

Cornell leads Clarke to LI Class A crown

Cornell tossed a two-hitter and struck out 14 as Clarke defeated Mount Sinai, 7-1, on Friday at Hofstra to capture a second straight Long Island Class A softball championship. The Rams advanced to the state tournament on June 11 in Glens Falls, where last season they lost the title game in extra innings.

No luck about it: MacArthur wins LI ‘AA’ title

If that big moment was because of luck, though, it certainly had some skill and discipline mixed in. MacArthur rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh, capped by a walk-off walk, for an 8-7 softball win over Commack in the Long Island Class AA championship game on Friday at Hofstra.

Center Moriches wins Long Island ‘B’ title

Center Moriches put its “Nine Strong” motto into action and built a 10-0 lead with runs scored by eight players in five different innings and earned the Class B title with a 10-0 win over Oyster Bay on Thursday at Hofstra. The ninth-grader fired a complete game with seven strikeouts against Suffolk Class C champion Pierson/Bridgehampton in a 21-4 win at St. Joseph’s College in Patchogue.

Basile, 17, has been on the varsity softball team since her sophomore year and is in her first full season as a starter.
