Live game primer: Bay Shore at Central Islip boys hoops

The Bay Shore Marauders will travel to Central Islip tonight to meet up with the Musketeers in a prime Suffolk League II boys basketball contest. MSGVarsity.com live access will have all of the action beginning at 4:15 p.m.

Taking a look at the last time these two met up. Bay Shore (9-5, 5-3, third in League II) gave Central Islip (13-2, 8-1, first in League II) everything they could muster while posting a 57-37 victory on January 3. Bryson Lassister had a game-high 19 points, while Devin Farmer added 11 and Jason Wright had nine points. Bay Shore dominated the second half, outscoring the Musketeers 37-13 in the final two quarters after trailing at the half 24-20.

Since then, The Marauders have gone 4-3, including a 51-41 win at home versus Walt Whitman last Friday. However, the Musketeers have been red-hot winning six of their last seven games. In that time, they have knocked off teams such as Northport and Walt Whitman, while their only loss came at the hands of a good Farmingdale squad, 64-60 in OT, at the Nassau/Suffolk Challenge.

Taking a look at the numbers for Bay Shore, four players are averaging in double-figures with Lassiter leading with 16.4 points per game. Jason Wright (11.4), Devin Farmer (10.7), and Gerrell Irvin (10.1) make up the remaining three.

On the flip side, only two scorers average in double-digits for Central Islip. Tim McKenzie leads with 15.7 per game and Ishiah Booker averages 12.2 points. However, the toughness that the Musketeers boast around the boards can’t go without saying. McKenzie averages 8.7 rebounds, while Malcolm Pridgeon is good for seven boards per contest.

Now this certainly should not be a trap game for Central Islip after falling by 20 to Bay Shore during their last matchup. However, looking ahead for the Musketeers they have Northport coming around the corner on February 1, which could decide the winner of League II.

So be sure to check out all of the action with Carl Reuter and Dalen Cuff on the call tonight starting at 4:15 p.m., and following the conclusion of the game it will be made immediately available on MSGVarsity.com for replay. This game will premiere on MSG Varsity Optimum. Channel 14 on Thursday, January 31 at 7:30 p.m.
