MSGVarsity.com kicks off its Long Island ice hockey season coverage with a marquee Nassau County HS Hockey League matchup featuring the defending NYS Amatuer Hockey Association Champions, Long Beach facing off against the Syosset Braves.

Both teams sit high atop Nassau’s Michelino Division and this game could have major implications on MSGVarsity.com’s weekly LI/NYC hockey rankings.

The Marines came into the 2011-12 season with a target on their backs as defending state champions. They also come in as relative newcomers to the Nassau County league after jumping ship to Suffolk last year and now finding residence in its native county.

Long Beach is led on the front lines by JT Forkin and captain Nolan Pues. Them along with linemate, junior Jake Brown prove to be a lethal combination for Syosset goaltending tandem Luke Cohen and Dan DaSilva.

The Braves are led by dynamic sophomore Corey Hoffman on the offensive attack. Hoffman leads all skaters in Nassau County in scoring with an astounding 16 goals and 18 assists in just five games.

Also leading the charge are fowards Sam Sternschein (11 G, 8 A), Adam Goldstein (5 G, 13 A), and Jon Lazarus (8 G, 10 A)-- who all are tops in scoring across Nassau County.

Join Carl Reuter and Chris King on the call at 8:00 p.m. as early Michelino Division supremacy hangs in the balanced for what could be an offensive explosion.
