Livecast primer: Suffolk hockey doubleheader

Long Island gets set to hit the ice Monday night as MSGVarsity.com Gametime Livecast presents a Suffolk County High School Hockey League doubleheader as Smithtown first takes on Connetquot/Sayville, followed by Sachem meeting Kings Park/Commack.

You can watch all the action on MSGVarsity.com starting at 8:10 p.m.

The Bulls of Smithtown (15-0) have been off the ice for what has seemed like an eternity, having played their last game on December 19 in what was an 8-4 win over Kings Park/Commack. Brian Masi and Nick Ambery each had two goals in the Bulls last matchup against the Cougars.

They are hoping to win their second game against their opponents and remain undefeated on the year. The Bulls defeated the T-Birds 3-1 way back on October 19.

Connetquot/Sayville had an equally long break as Smithtown but have had a few games to get its skates under them.

After three weeks off due to the Suffolk holiday break, the T-Birds returned to the ice with a commanding 9-3 win over Kings Park/Commack, and followed it up with with a 5-1 victory over Cornwall.

Connetquot/Sayville enters this game as the number three team in the MSGVarsity.com LI/NYC power rankings and a victory could propel them over top-ranked Smithtown.

Our second half of our frozen double-header has a scheduled start time of 9:40 p.m. and will feature Suffolk’s third-ranked team Sachem, taking on Kings Park/Commack.

Sachem comes into this contest having just clinched a playoff spot having just defeated Northport/Huntington convincingly, 13-3 last night. The Arrows have been riddled with injury all season and have consistently sported teams of just 12 skaters consistently, but were able to field its first full team last night against the Tigers. \

Chris Chizziniti led the way with three goals and two assists, while Chris Porcillo, Chris Haun, Nick Tarasco and Robbie Donnelly all netted two apiece.

Kings Park/Commack will make its second appearance on MSGVarsity Gametime and are mired in a bit of a slump now, having won just two games in its last seven appearances, its most recent loss coming in a 9-3 defeat at the hands of the aforementioned Connetquot/Sayville.

This will be the first of two straight meetings these two teams will play against each other, as they will both meet against on January 15.

Be sure to join Carl Reuter and Chris King on the call starting at 8:10 p.m. from The Rinx in Hauppauge only on MSGVarsity.com
