The last six years of the 20th annual Friendship Games between East Rockaway and Lynbrook have been close contests.

Why not make it seven?

David McClure dropped 24 points and was efficient from the charity stripe (11-for-14 FT) as he helped lift East Rockaway to a double overtime thrilling victory over Lynbrook, 66-63.

In the waning seconds of the fourth quarter where a lead was no larger than three points, East Rockaway's Danny Fusco had the chance to win it in regulation for the Rocks. However the ball bounced off his foot and onto the midcourt line for a back-court violation. And after Ed Carniglia stole the ball with three seconds left, Fusco got the ball just a half-second too late and his lay-up did not county, sending the game to overtime.

Fusco got to redeem himself however by opening up the overtime period with a three-pointer. The Rocks opened up its lead to 7 points in the extra frame as Billy Humes added another three of his 21 points in the additional four minutes.

Lynbrook fought back however cutting the lead to two with under thirty seoncds left, but Matthew McVeigh stole a pass at midcourt and found an opening Anthony Mackie for the layup to send the game to a double overtime period.

That's when McClure would take over from the stripe.

McClure, ever the hot shot from the free-throw marker hit four out of four free throws in the second extra four minutes to establish a three-point lead with just seconds to go. Late three-point heaves from McVeigh and John Boni wre just short to give East Rockaway a thrilling 66-63 win.

McVeigh had 22 points to lead Lynbrook, while Matthew Murphy was close behind with 17 while adding five rebounds.
