Chaminade weathered the storm (natural and otherwise), and now has a 27th tennis team championship to show for it.

Matt Romano and Ethan Handa defeated Josh Brown and Chris Granito, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2, at third doubles as the Flyers beat visiting St. Anthony's, 4-3, yesterday. The battle highlighted a matchup that featured Chaminade relying on its wealth of talent to work around the Friars' top-heavy lineup.

"They're very good at their first and second singles, so our depth is what won it today," coach Jim Quinn said. "And just that 8-6 tiebreak was crucial for us. [Romano and Handa] were going for their shots. They were aggressive at the net."

Chaminade also had four players remain undefeated. At third singles, freshman Bryant Born defeated freshman Brian Hoffarth, 6-3, 6-1, and at fourth singles, Will Brosnan defeated Robbie Falvo, 6-4, 6-0.

At second doubles, undefeated Rich Spinelli and Cameron Posillico defeated Matt Pavese and Pat Farrel, 6-4, 6-3.

"It was very difficult weather conditions," Quinn said. "It was cold, windy with threat of rain and we knew it was going to be close . . . We knew going into the match that it was probably going to be 4-3 one way or another."
