When Jenny Scro was awarded a penalty kick early in the first half she was unshaken. The MacArthur junior sweeper says PKs don't faze her and she hoped to find the corner of the net.

"I usually go right, into the corner," Scro said. "I kind of just let it go."

Scro's kick ended up going down the middle for the game's first goal and Arianna Montefusco scored in No. 2 MacArthur's 3-0 win against No. 9 Calhoun that gave the Generals the Nassau Class AA girls soccer championship Wednesday at Denton Ave. Park. It is the first county title for MacArthur (15-2-0), which plays Suffolk champion Ward Melville for the Long Island championship on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Denton Ave. Park.

Scro has been instrumental to MacArthur's defense all season and helped keep the county's leading goal scorer, Calhoun's Kristina Gandolfo (25 goals), in check.

"I can't say enough about her," MacArthur coach Lauren Gotta said. "She plays simple and she's smart. You watch her, you know she's one of the best kids on the field."

MacArthur had several chances in the first half but Calhoun goalkeeper Alissa Battaglia kept the Colts in the game.

The Generals added a second goal in the 44th minute when a cross intended for Kristyn Alonzo deflected off Battaglia.

Montefusco came down the left side and went around a diving Battaglia to score in the 55th minute.

Battaglia made eight saves and Chandler Baltazar added two saves for Calhoun (16-1-2).

Calhoun coach Lori Biscardi said MacArthur was the toughest foe her team had faced all year. "All 11 players out there connected their passes," Biscardi said. "They're a great team. They've very composed out there."
