30 NJ Players to Watch: Jenna Crisalli

MSG Varsity counts down the top 30 New Jersey athletes to watch, in no particular order, for the upcoming school year. Today, we highlight No. 13, Freehold Boro gymnastics star Jenna Crisalli.

Jenna Crisalli had every right to shake her head in disappointment, and rightfully so. But despite missing the latter parts of 2012 with an injury, the Freehold Boro gymnast couldn’t resist reflecting on her accomplishments with a positive mindset.

Perhaps that’s why the upcoming year on the mats will be so much fun to watch.

With a clean bill of health, Crisalli has been training 18-20 hours a week at the Monmouth Gymnastics Academy under coach Maggie Haney as a level 10 gymnast. Hard work always pays off, so it’s safe to assume the junior will be doing some spectacular things this school year.

Back in the beginning of 2011, Crisalli started at the Star Struck Invitational as a level 9 gymnast. There, she placed first on balance beam and third on floor exercise. At the Parkette Invitational, she won a bronze medal on floor exercise.

Crisalli traveled to Texas for the WOGA Classic in February and finished sixth in the all-around and second on vault, and she moved up to level 10 for rest of the season. At the Manhattan Classic, Crisalli finished seventh overall and second on floor exercise.

She later won a bronze medal on balance beam at the Level 10 state championships and concluded her 2011 campaign at the Level 10 Regionals.

During the 2011-2012 season, Crisalli finished fifth in the all-around and fourth on balance beam at the Christmas City Classic. At the Star Struck Invitational, she placed second on vault and in the all-around, as well as third on balance beam and floor exercise.

To round out the year, Crisalli finished third in the all-around and second on floor exercise at the Parkettes Invitational.

Based on her previous accolades, she is a can’t-miss athlete for the 2012-13 year in New Jersey.
