Friday's afternoon livecast will feature an ice hockey border war between New York's Suffern and New Jersey's Don Bosco Prep.
In an interesting twist, the Ironmen's roster actually features six players from New York. Five of them live in Rockland County and the sixth hails from Orange County. The two schools are separated by a mere six miles.
Suffern — which enters with a record of 13-2 — is the top-ranked team in MSG Varsity's latest WE/HV Power Rankings. The Mounties are coming off a 10-0 drubbing of Ithaca on Jan. 27. Their two losses were against upstate Division 1 contenders Massena and West Genesee.
Offensively, Suffern is paced by the talented senior trio of Willie Sanchez (20G, 18A), Ian Adler (15G, 19A) and John Redgate (13G, 18A). Defensively, goalie Tyler Stark has posted a stellar 1.12 goals against average.
Don Bosco — which cruised to a 9-2 victory over Harvey in its last game on Feb. 1 — enters with a record of 18-1. The Ironmen are the No. 2 team in MSG Varsity's latest NJ Power Rankings. Offensively, Brendan Calello leads the way with a team-high 26 points.
The Ironmen are 3-0 against New York-based schools this season, defeating Portledge, Holy Cross and Harvey by a combined score of 29-5. The Ironmen's only loss came against New Jersey’s No. 1 team, Delbarton, 4-1 last month.
In last year's showdown between the two powerhouses, Don Bosco shocked Suffern with three goals inside the final six minutes of regulation to steal a 6-5 win.
