Livecast primer: Shabazz vs. Nutley

Malcolm X. Shabazz looks to bounce back from a tough loss when it takes on Super Essex conference rival Nutley on Friday evening.

The much-anticipated showdown, which is slated to kick off at 7 p.m., will be live-streamed on and broadcast live in high-definition on MSG Varsity iO Ch. 14.

Coming off a 34-32 loss to Orange, the Bulldogs aim to win for the third time in four weeks and improve their record to 5-2 before the final stretch of the regular season unravels. Prior to last week, they had notched victories over Caldwell and Newark Central, respectively, thanks to a stellar offensive attack.

Shabazz has not had trouble lighting up the scoreboard, as the Bulldogs have tallied 30-plus points in five of their six contests.

The key to victory for Shabazz will be containing Matt DelMauro on the ground. Nutley’s star running back has amassed impressive numbers through five games, rushing for just under 700 yards and 10 touchdowns.

In Nutley’s 34-20 setback against West Essex last weekend, DelMauro registered 83 yards and two touchdowns one week after pulling off an eye-opening, 218-yard performance.

Despite DelMauro’s prowess, the Maroon Raiders have slipped into a two-game losing streak and hope to get back to their winning ways. They started the campaign rattling off wins over Millburn, East Side and West Side.
