Preview: Robbinsville vs. Steinert wrestling

A pair of Colonial Valley Conference rivals square off Wednesday night when surging Hamilton East-Steinert hosts Robbinsville at 6:30 p.m.

The visiting Ravens head into the match with a 2-2 dual meet record and led by head coach Rich Gildner. Sophomore Christopher Tan is the Ravens top returner from a season ago when he finished third in the District 25 Tournament at 103 pounds.

He is 6-1 on the season at 106 pounds. Heavyweight was an important spot the last two years for the Ravens with two-time Region VII champ Brandon DiDonato in the fold. His graduation has left a void, but one that sophomore Tyler Gildner has filled nicely. He's 8-0 at 285 this season.

Since dropping three straight to start the season, Steinert has rattled off four straight wins and is looking to keep the momentum going under head coach Adam Jankos. The Spartans swept a tri-meet with Bordentown and Trenton Central this past Saturday.

Senior Joe Michel, a returning District 25 champion and two-time region fourth-place finisher, leads the way at 126 pounds. He is 9-1 on the season. Sophomore River Ulrich, a district runner-up last season, is 5-2 at 182 pounds.

Junior Tyler Beers (8-3 at 120 pounds), senior Sean McDonald (8-2 at 170), sophomore Matt McDonald (7-1 at 160) and sophomore Michael Remboski (6-2 at 285) have also been impressive for Steinert.
