Suffolk boys bowling wins fourth section in a row

Despite trailing by 390 pins after the third of six games, the Suffolk bowlers knew they could come back and win their fourth straight state sectional championship at Anchor Lanes Sunday. The bowlers used a 30-minute intermission to regroup after holding a meeting.

Eighth-grader Naujokas tops state Sectionals

Naujokas led Suffolk to a second-place finish, accounting for a competition-best 1,252 (208.7 average) of the team’s 5,702 pins. Section II (Saratoga) won with 5,778. Naujokas didn’t even know she had the highest pin total.

Holy Trinity’s Vietri bowls to NYSCHSAA crown

The Holy Trinity senior was afforded a do-over after first throwing the ball down the wrong lane and he made it count with a strike. Then he added five more for a total of seven consecutive strikes on the way to rolling a 247, enough to top St. John the Baptist’s Liam Mahoney for the NYSCHSAA individual championship Saturday at AMF Babylon Lanes. Mahoney bowled a 219 in the finals.

Vietri, LoPiccolo win CHSAA bowling titles

Chris Vietri began his first game with 10 consecutive strikes, but he said he was still looking over his shoulder to his Holy Trinity bowling teammate Bryan Bono, who wasn’t far behind.

Sachem boys, East Islip girls take bowling titles

The East Islip girls bowling team senior has been a leader this season for the perennial powerhouse, but said she’s never been to the state championship. Mavrich said East Islip went there in 2014, but she was an alternate and didn’t compete.

Syosset’s Mackenzie Wagner knew that from her experiences and used it to her advantage Saturday, reminding herself to focus on the long haul and make progress throughout six games. She ended in first place with a 1,134 total at the Nassau individual bowling championships at Garden City Lanes.

Wright leads Chaminade to fifth straight CHSAA title

Wright’s strong performance led Chaminade (14-0) to its fifth consecutive CHSAA title Thursday at Farmingdale Lanes. The Flyers beat St. John the Baptist, 1,159-1,029 and 1,050-979 in Game 1 and 2, but lost 1,103-1,094 in the third game. St. John the Baptist fell to 9-5-1.

Soedarmasto’s victory to be on ESPN

The Division Avenue High School senior competed in the Teen Masters Grand Championship match in Reno, Nevada, on Dec. 19 and the event will be televised Sunday at 3 p.m. on ESPN as part of the PBA Challenge finals.

Soedarmasto leads Division to bowling win

Soedarmasto didn’t leave an open frame in Game 2 in bowling a 258 on the way to a 760 series, helping Division take two of three against Island Trees Monday at South Levittown Lanes. He rolled a 257 in the first game and a 245 in the third.

Call it Long Island’s perfect storm of perfect games, as all four bowlers rolled a 300 game Tuesday in Suffolk County boys bowling.

Division's Soedarmasto bowls for bucks in Vegas

Soedarmasto, 17, averaged 231.52 in his 42 games, winning 13 of 18 matches with a total 10,114 pinfall during the five-day tournament that concluded July 3. He beat runner-up Trey Brand of Battlefield, Missouri, by 165 pins.

After a seven-year absence, East Islip's boys bowling team owns the state championship trophy again.
