The Hornets pulled away from Section 4’s Vestal, 4-0, to win the state regional title and advance to the NYSPHSAA Class B state semifinals. Four different players scored for Lakeland including Megan Fahey, who got the goal scoring started in the first half. The Hornets will take on Brighton (Section 5) from Rochester in the state semis.
The Tigers got another hat trick from Lizzie Clarke as they held off Section 4’s Maine-Endwell in the state regional final, 4-2. Mamaroneck led 3-0 in the second half before M-E scored two quick goals to get back in the game. Clarke’s third goal in the final minute of the game iced the victory. The Tigers will face Williamsville North (Section 6).
Oak Knoll went 3-0 this week to win the North Jersey, Non-Public sectional title. It’s the fourth straight sectional title for the Royals, who are looking for their fourth straight state championship. Oak Knoll cruised past Mount St. Mary’s, Pingry, and county rival Kent Place. The Royals will face the South Jersey winner in the Non-Public state championship game.
The Trojans topped No. 9 Miller Place in the Long Island Class B championship with a 2-0 victory. Emily Clarke put Garden City 1-0 at the half with a goal off a penalty corner, and then Michaela Bruno put MP away with a penalty stroke goal in the second half. The Trojans face Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (Section 2) in the state semifinals.
The Blue Wave held off Wilton, 1-0, to win its second FCIAC championship in three years. Georgia Cassidy scored the game’s lone goal in the second half and Marissa Baker’s defense on the game’s final untimed play gave Darien the trophy. The Blue Wave host Newington in the Class L state tournament and possibly Wilton again in second round.
West Essex bested Ramsey 2-0 in the North 1, Group 2 sectional final behind goals from Julia Russo and Lia Sinisi. Paige Innarella posted another shutout with four saves. West Essex will face Madison in the state semifinals after losing 5-4 to the Dodgers in last year’s sectional championship game.
Ward Melville won the Class A Long Island Championship with a 5-0 victory over Massapequa. Kassidy Rogers-Healion scored four goals (all in the second half) to lead the Patriots to the victory. Ward Melville will face Shenendehowa (Section 2) in the state semifinals.
Wall Township scored a 1-0 victory over previously-unbeaten and Tri-State ranked Rumson-Fair Haven in the Central Jersey, Group 2 sectional title game. Bernadette Crehan scored in the first half and Laird Dunn made eight saves to make the lone goal stand up. Wall faces South Jersey sectional champ West Deptford in the state semifinals this week.
Miller Place fell to No. 4 Garden City in the Long Island Championship, 2-0, this week. Ally Tarantino had nine saves in the loss and kept MP in the game, but the Panthers couldn’t muster any offense against the Trojans. Crystal Esposito finished the season with 24 goals and seven assists to lead Miller Place. Season complete.
The Garnets fell for the first time this year in a 4-1 loss to Section 1 rival Lakeland. The Garnets’ Abby Abate knotted the score 1-1 in the first half, but Rye couldn’t contain Lakeland’s Dana Bozek who scored three more times in the first half. Ali Howard had four saves in the loss. Rye’s season is complete.
