SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Shutouts in lacrosse are few and far between. If you combine solid possession, tough defense, and nifty goaltending, it can be done. On Wednesday afternoon, that’s exactly what junior goalie Eric Pass and his Bronxville (12-1) teammates accomplished in a 10-0 victory over Scarsdale (5-9).

“It feels really good to get the shutout,” Pass said. “It’s not something I was focused on though, I was just doing my job, which is keep as many balls out of the net as possible.”

While Pass made 12 saves, it was a great defensive performance overall that helped secure the shutout. Scarsdale only took 22 shots in the game and missed the net wildly sometimes due to the intense pressure of the Broncos’ defense.

“We just concentrated on playing some tough team defense,” Pass said. “The guys in front of me did a great job putting pressure on the guys we wanted to and laying off other guys.”

Bronxville's defense played as well as they could, but the offense took some time to get going. It took almost seven minutes for the Broncos to get on the scoreboard, but once they did the flood gates opened. Henry Grass opened the scoring at 5:28 of the first quarter, and the Broncos added three more goals in the next three minutes to take a 4-0 lead into the second quarter. Matt Behrens assisted on three of the first four goals.

“They came out in a zone and we implemented an offense specifically for that and it took us a little while to get it going,” Bronxville’s leading scorer Brewster Warble said. “It’s finally coming together though and we got better and better at that (as the game went on).”

Warble was a big reason for the offensive success. He scored four goals to lead the way for Bronxville. His goal with less than a minute remaining in the third quarter was the only goal of the period and put the Broncos up 8-0.

“We’re concentrating on playing a strong four quarters because we’ve had trouble coming out of halftime,” Warble said. “We did a better job today though. Our defense was great and Eric (Pass) was better.”

Scarsdale's Connor Wolfe was also solid between the pipes with 11 saves.
