Top 10 Westchester/Hudson Valley hockey teams

1) Suffern (11-1) — The Mounties outscored Orchard Park and Williamsville East a combined 10-3 this past weekend to win their tournament. Basically, business as usual for Suffern.

2) Rye (9-1-1) — Sunday's 3-1 loss to Section 5's McQuaid Jesuit was Rye's first of the season. The Garnets, who headed upstate for six of their first 11 games, play seven of their last nine locally. The stretch starts with a solid challenge against Mamaroneck on Jan. 18 at Playland at 7:45 p.m.

3) Monroe-Woodbury (12-1-1) — The Crusaders took home the Scarsdale Winter Tournament title on Sunday with a shootout victory over Harvey. The two teams played to a 4-4 tie through regulation. Bryan Beach paced Monroe-Woodbury with a hat-trick.

4) Pelham (7-4) — Pelham split at the Suffern tourney this past weekend, falling to Williamsville East — which defeated the Pelicans in last year's NYS D-2 semifinals — 2-0. They bounced back with a 3-0 shutout win over Orchard Park in the consolation game. Saturday's showdown at Rome Free Academy offers yes another litmus test for Pelham.

5) Harvey (8-4-1) — An early-season upset loss to Somers/North Salem seems like a distant memory, as the Cavaliers have bounced back with impressive wins over RCDS and Scarsdale. Sunday's shootout loss to Monroe-Woodbury — which actually went into the books as a tie — was another quality showing. Look for Wednesday's rematch against RCDS to be a little tougher than the first meeting.

6) Eastchester/Tuckahoe/Bronxville (10-3) — The Eagles rebounded from the Suffern drubbing with back-to-back wins over White Plains and Clarkstown. But ETB can't overlook tonight's game against a red-hot New Rochelle squad.

7) Mahopac (10-3) — The Indians have continued to play quality hockey in 2012, defeating Somers/North Salem, 6-2, on Sunday to record their fifth straight win. Wednesday's matchup against Iona Prep should be a good one.

8) Brewster (14-1) — The Bears have won five straight since falling to Mahopac back on Dec. 23. Two of those wins —against John Jay-CR and Carmel — came in overtime.

9) Iona Prep (9-6-2) — Back-to-back wins over Chaminade and Monsignor Farrell revived the Gaels' season.

10) Clarkstown (6-6) — Saturday's 4-2 win over Pearl River proved Clarkstown is, in fact, the second best team in Rockland County. Friday's game against New Rochelle is one to watch.

10t) New Rochelle (9-3) — Coach Jim Tozzo's squad has quietly put together a solid season. They have won six straight since dropping a 7-4 game to Pearl River back on Dec. 9.
